Community Partners are Breaking Barriers: The “We Believe in Erie” Fund

The “We Believe in Erie Fund” is a partnership between the Greater Erie Economic Development Corporation (GEEDC) and The Erie Community Foundation (ECF). Established on April 30, 2021, the fund provides scholarship assistance for post-secondary education, pre-apprenticeship training, and paid internships.  Applicants pursue training in a number of fields including financial services, health services, food services, HVAC, construction, plumbing, and welding.

As part of the partnership, both GEEDC and The Erie Community Foundation committed to provide $2 million for the fund and to raise an additional $1 million, part of which was generously donated by local philanthropist Tom Hagen. GEEDC and the Erie Community Foundation are working together to bridge gaps caused by economic and racial divides while instilling hope within the community.
